Windows 2000 DNS Server Changes

  1. Click on the Start menu, select Settings, and then click on Control Panel.

  2. From the list of control panels, double click on Network and Dial-up Connections.

  3. With your right mouse button, click on the icon representing your connection to SVN. (This is usually called SVN or Silicon Vlaley North) This will expand a menu. Click on Properties, which is the very last item on the menu.

  4. Click on the Networking tab at the top of the window.

  5. Click once on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) so that it is highlighted.

  6. Click on Properties

  7. If you have Use the following DNS server addresses: selected, delete any numbers that may be in the Preferred DNS server: and Alternate DNS server: fields. Then, click on Obtain DNS server address automatically to select it. When it is selected, the small circle next to it will have a black dot in the center.

  8. Click on the Advanced button, and then click on the DNS tab at the top of the window.

  9. Make sure that you do not have any numbers listed below DNS server addresses, in order of use. If you do, and you do not have a local network that connects your computer to other computers in your building, for each of the numbers listed, click on it once, and then click on the "Remove" button. (If you do have a local computer network in your building, check with your network administrator to make sure you maintain the proper settings.)

  10. Click OK. Click OK again to close the Properties window.

  11. Shut down and restart your computer.
