- Open the Control Panel (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel).
- Double-click on Network.
- You will need the following network components installed: Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, and TCP/IP.
- Some components may already be installed. Add the ones that are missing and Remove and remove any extras. In some cases, (if your PC is connected to a Local Area Network) you may have multiple adapters installed, along with their corresponding protocols. Removing these may cause a disruption in your access to the network, and it is recommended that you check with the person responsible for maintaining your LAN before continuing.
- To install Client for Microsoft Networks, click on Add, then double-click on Client. Under Manufacturers, select Microsoft. Under Network Clients, double-click on Client for Microsoft Networks.
- You should now be back at the Network Configuration Dialog. The previous step should have added Dial-Up Adapter, IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol, and NetBEUI.

- Select your modem from the list of installed modems. Click Next.
- In the Telephone Number box, enter the number of the local dialup you are using.
- Click Next. Click Finish.
- From the Dial-Up Networking folder, right-click on your connection
to SVN and click on Properties.

- Under Allowed Network Protocols you should only have TCP/IP checked. Uncheck any others.
- Click OK.
- You have now successfully configured your system to connect to SVN.
- You may want to make a shortcut to SVN on your desk top. To do so, drag (click, hold, and move the mouse) the icon for your connection to SVN from the Dial-Up Networking folder to your desktop. Windows will ask you if you want to make a shortcut because the item can't be copied. Click Yes.
- You may now connect to SVN by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop or in the Dial-Up Networking folder.
- The first time you open the connection, you will need to enter your user information.
- Check the Save Password box.
- If you want your computer to automatically connect to the Internet when you open a web browser or mail program,
check the Connect Automatically box.
- Enter your user name (the part of your e-mail address before the @ sign) and password in their respective fields.
- Click Connect.
- After the connection is established, you will see a dialup window with a timer appear, or a window minimize to the lower right corner of your screen. You are now connected to SVN, and may run your internet software (ie: Netscape, Eudora, etc.).
