Windows XP Configuration
- You may be prompted for your Windows XP setup CD. Please have it ready.
- Click on the Start Menu and then click on Control Panel.
- Click on Network and Internet Connections.
- Click on Network Connections in the lower right of the window.
- Click on Create a new connection. The New Connection Wizard will open.
- If a Location dialog box opens, enter your area code in the appropriate box, click OK, and then click OK on the location selection window that opens below it. You will now return to the Connection Wizard.
- Click Next.
- Click on Connect to the Internet and then click Next.
- Click on Set up my connection manually and then click Next.
- Click on Connect using a dial-up modem and then click Next.
- In the box labeled ISP Name, type in SVN and then click Next.
- In the Phone number: box, enter your local dial-up number. (For a list of dial-up numbers, click here) Click Next.
- In the Username: box, enter your username (the first part of your e-mail address before the @ sign). Please note that your username should be in all lower-case letters.
- In the Password: field, enter your password. Please note that your password is case-sensetive. Type your password again in the Confirm password: box.
- Be sure that the Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection box is checked. This will provide an added layer of protection for your computer.
- Click Next.
- Place a check mark next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop. This will allow you to access the connection directly from your desktop. Click Finish.
- You should now close the Network Connections window and any other windows that are still open. Then, double-click on the SVN icon on your desktop. Click on the Dial button and make sure that you are able to establish a connection.
- By default, your computer should automatically establish a connection to SVN when you open Internet software such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Outlook Express. To check on this setting, click on Start and then click on Control Panel. Click on Network and Internet Connections and then click on Internet Options. Click on the Connections tab. SVN should appear with (default) next to it. If it does not, click once on SVN to highlight it and then click on Set Default. Also make sure that Always dial my default connection is selected. Click OK.
