what I do

There's a lot of talk about bringing out the best in people. For me, it's my business.

As a nationally recognized leader in human performance technology (HPT), I believe the organizations that profit the most are those whose leaders invest time and energy in their most valuable resource -- their people.

I don't just help these business leaders create learning programs that look good or feel good, I help them walk their talk by building high-quality programs that are relevant and deliver impact -- impact for the learner, impact for the organization, impact to the bottom line.

The stories here are just a few of the many ways I've helped managers increase revenues, decrease costs, help their employees get the knowledge and skills they need and make the most of their training dollars.

Increasing Sales

A senior manager at one of the most widely-recognized software game producers in the world needed help building sales skills among her call center reps and so she contacted me.

After discussing her needs, I designed and delivered a performance intervention that included training and coaching programs based on techniques used by an award-winning, sales call center in the Southeastern United States.

The programs helped significantly increase sales in all three of her call centers -- Inside Sales, Customer Service and Technical Support. In one center, we observed a sales increase of over 500% within the first six months.

Decreasing Costs

The Director of Learning for one of the nation's largest staffing firms needed a better new employee orientation program -- one that would help his managers get their people up-to-speed quickly and decrease turnover. He called on me to help design and develop a new employee orientation program.

After pinpointing the organization's needs, we created a state-of-the-art new employee training program that included both eLearning and instructor-led components for building professional development skills, industry-specific knowledge, and technical skills.

Initial impact included participants at all levels -- from clerical-support staff to new executive leaders -- raving that this program was one of the most helpful and relevant professional learning programs they had ever experienced.

The more significant impact, however, was that managers back in the field began reporting that their people were entering the field more motivated and better equipped with the knowledge and skills they needed -- thus saving time and delivering results to the bottom-line quicker than before.

Getting the Knowledge and Skills You Need

A senior manager at a NASA Space Flight Center wanted to help her employees build better professional development skills. (Some of those employees were working on the current Space Shuttle project.)

Following an initial consultation, we uncovered several skill areas in which her people needed development. One of these was in the area of time management and included such skills as prioritizing tasks, managing interruptions and planning meetings. She called on me to assist in the design and development of a cost-effective performance intervention that included customizing an existing training program and job-aids, as well as one-on-one coaching.

In the end, her employees developed the knowledge and skills they needed and program results exceeded her expectations. (And the next time the Space Shuttle took off, it was on time!)

Making The Most Of Your Training Dollars

In one of his films, a competitor catches Clint Eastwood off guard and reminds him, "There are two kinds of spurs, my friend… those who come in by the door and those who come in by the window."

In the world of performance technology there are two kinds of consultants, those who bring style and those who bring substance.

I bring you both.

While having style may help you feel better than your competitors, and having substance may help you think better than your competitors, having both helps you perform better than you competitors. And better performance is what keeps you in business.

When you invest in your next performance improvement project, include a professional with…

  • experience in the real-world of business
  • a network of thought-leaders in instructional design and eLearning

  • mastery of best practices in training design and development

Make the most of your training dollars and don't get caught off guard by your competitors. Contact me today and let's discuss how I can help you bring out the best in your people.
